Never heard of the Beanpot? It’s OK, I won’t judge if you haven’t.
The Beanpot is Boston’s equivalent of the Rose Bowl to the Pac-12 and the Big Ten.
Featuring Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and Northeastern, the tournament, now in it’s 62nd year, is a tradition held at the Boston Garden for New England hockey bragging rights.
The semifinals are held on the first Monday of February with the championship and consolation games played on the second Monday. Needless to say, Beanpot Monday is an anticipated even every year in Boston.
Not quite Marathon Monday, but still an anticipated event.
The who’s who of hockey, media and celebrities are in attendance each year and are filled with spirit, like tradition tends to do.
I was able to attend the 2009 edition of the tournament and it was an experience I’ll always remember.
Needless to say, I’ll be cheering for Harvard as I have for the past five years. The Crimson have not won the tournament since 1994 so here’s hoping the 20 year drought ends in 2014.
This one goes out to CHart… “Lavoie: +/-”
